Tara DevereauxTara Devereaux

Registered Veterinary Technician Tara Devereux joined the staff at Animal and Bird Hospital of Del Mar in June of 2011. She lends a capable hand wherever she's needed to help out, whether it's working with clients, filling prescriptions, surgery prep, taking inventory and in animal husbandry. She's always interested in learning something new.

"I love the staff and the doctors here, and the quality of medicine we provide," she said.

Tara has three dogs, Orion, Chloe and Buddy, a cat named Panther and two potbellied pigs, Orville and Wilbur. She relaxes by snowboarding, hiking and hanging out with her family.

Ashley CausgroveAshley Causgrove

Registered Veterinary Technician Ashley Causgrove is a dedicated team player. Whatever there is that needs to be done, Ashley will step in to do it, and always with a positive attitude. She works with clients, fills out prescriptions, helps administer vaccines and anesthetics and monitors our patients during surgery.

Ashley has a Bachelor's Degree in Biology from San Diego State. She is a recent graduate from the Animal Health and Technology Program at San Diego Mesa College.

"I really enjoy working at a clinic where everyone is dedicated and passionate about the work they do," Ashley said about the atmosphere at Del Mar.

She shares her home with Penny, Oliver and Rufus - all Chihuahua mixes, and Cheeseball, her Cockatiel. Ashley loves to read, and relaxes by dancing, spending time outdoors, listening to music, hanging out with her friends and family and spoiling her dogs.

Devin Blaine McCartyVeterinary Assistants

Devin McCarty

Veterinary Technician Devin McCarty has been a member of the team at Del Mar since March of 2008 and has been working with animals for the past nine years. He has a vast amount of experience working with avian patients. Devin also works as a bird groomer, administers vaccines, preps our patients for surgery, assists in dental cleanings and nurtures our hospitalized patients.

"It's an amazing opportunity to work with various species of birds - I'm hooked," he said. "The great co-workers and clients make each day unique and exciting. The proximity to the beach isn't bad, either!"

Devin has a cat named Kitty, and his hobby is tracking wild animals. He also enjoys playing guitar, mandolin, flute, as well as hiking, camping, backpacking, long road trips, swimming reading, eating Mexican food, cave exploring and kayaking.

Karina VazquezKarina Vazquez

Veterinary Assistant Karina Vazquez has been a part of our team since September of 2008. One of the reasons why she enjoys her job so much is because "it's very rewarding to help animals everyday," she said. Karina works with clients, administering vaccines, monitoring patients during surgery, dental work and ordering medications for the hospital.

"I enjoy working with my fellow technicians everyday," she said. "We all enjoy each other's company. I love catching up with clients that have been coming in for years and getting to know the new clients on a more personal level. The doctors deeply care about each individual pet and it's great to be around people that love their pets, too."

Karina has two dogs, Benny, a Chihuahua, and Trixie, a Chihuahua/Daschund mix. They both participate in the area's annual Chihuahua races.

Karina enjoys her time relaxing by reading, traveling, trying new restaurants and doing any activity that takes place at one of the local beaches.

Sabina ShanmugamSabina Shanmugam

Veterinary Assistant Sabina Shanmugam has been working professionally with animals since she was 15 years old, and assisting Dr. Mira and Dr. Havens Fournier since 2008. Sabina comes to work every day looking forward to taking care of the boarders, prepping our patients before the doctor sees them, filling prescriptions and helping prepare our patients for surgery. Sabina is also enrolled at Cal State San Marcos pursuing her degree in Biology.

"I love waking up in the morning and coming in to work; I actually get really excited," Sabina said. "Not a lot of people can say that about their job so I feel very blessed to have that opportunity. I love our clients and the people I work with and especially all the adorable animals that come in."

Sabina shares her home with Oreo-Siesta, a Dashchund/Lab mix. She relaxes by watching movies, going on road trips and experiencing new things.

Sarah Booher

Veterinary Assistant Sarah Booher has a unique and in-depth understanding of avian behavior and wellness. Her responsibilities include administering vaccines, preparing patients for surgery, filling prescriptions and communicating with clients. Sarah has a bachelor's degree in cognitive science and is currently pursuing her master's degree at the University of San Diego. She joined our hospital in 2012.

"I admire the team at ABH and greatly enjoy coming into work every day," she says. "It's amazing being surrounded by people who care as much about animals as I do."

Sarah has a Cavalier King Charles spaniel named Bailey. In her free time, she enjoys running, hiking, playing tennis and traveling.

Denise Pham

Veterinary Assistant Denise Pham brings her enthusiasm and wildlife knowledge with her to work every day. Her responsibilities include patient care, vaccine administration, bloodwork, exam room preparation, and medical assistance. She earned her bachelor's degree in physiology and neuroscience from the University of California, San Diego and has been a member of the Animal and Bird Hospital team since January 2014.

"The hospital is one-of-a-kind," she says. "The staff and doctors and clients are like family. When you truly love your job, you never work a day in your life."

Denise cares for foster dogs and loves hiking, skating, snowboarding, Olympic lifting, dining out and traveling.

Alli Fraser

Veterinary Assistant Alli Fraser enjoys everything about her job. Her responsibilities include patient care, client communication and assisting the doctors and medical team as needed. Alli has an associate's degree in animal health technology from San Diego Mesa College and recently graduated from their veterinary technician program. She joined the Animal and Bird Hospital of Del Mar in July 2014.

"I have always been an animal lover and knew that I would end up working with animals," she says. "I love Animal and Bird Hospital because we are passionate about what we do and we have fun doing it!"

At home, Alli cares for three Quarter horses (Junior, Chiquita and Footsteps) and an Australian Shepherd named Tonka. She enjoys spending her free time snowboarding, horseback riding, gardening, playing soccer, and helping out on her family's cattle ranch.

Nancy NelsonReceptionists

Nancy Nelson

Receptionist Nancy Nelson joined our team in November of 2011 and has been working professionally with animals for the past 20 years. She provides a warm and welcoming atmosphere in the front office for our clients and their pets. She keeps everything running smoothly by scheduling our appointments, answering client calls and questions and assisting with all our team members.

"The Animal and Bird Hospital has a great staff and clientele. Each staff member is compassionate and caring and go above and beyond their required duties," Nancy said. "Our clients are knowledgeable and want to provide the best care for their pet family members. This combination makes a great working environment."

Nancy has an Irish Setter named Guinness, a Great Dane named Boz and Lil, a Siamese cat. She loves to spend time with her family, traveling and is a Charger's football fan.

Kim TierneyKim Tierney

Receptionist Kim Tierney joined our team in January of 2012 and has been working professionally with animals for the last eight years. She's great at interacting with our clients and their pets because that's what she enjoys the most. Kim has excellent customer service skills.

"I enjoy working with all of my co-workers and love how close we all have become," Kim said. "It's also a privilege to work with such caring veterinarians. Not to mention our clients are great!"

Kim shares her home with six cats: Delilah, Chester, Atlas, Bailee, Murphy and Jasper. She has two dogs, Hank and Bear. Kim relaxes by spending time with her family, hanging out with friends and taking random road trips. She's a fan of seeing new bands in concert.

Christine OlsonChristine Olson

Our receptionist Christine Olson joined the staff here at Animal & Bird Hospital of Del Mar in July of 2012. She looks forward to greeting all our clients and their pets everyday, and she also assists with scheduling appointments and making sure everyone leaves the clinic "happy." Christine is currently enrolled in school to be a certified veterinary assistant.

"Everyone is so friendly. This is a very inviting atmosphere," Christine said about working at the Animal & Bird Hospital of Del Mar. "We all have the same goal, which is to take care of the animals."

Christine has two cats, Princess and Kobe. She relaxes by watching movies, hiking and playing with her cats.

Kennel Staff

Kelvin Chan

Kennel Assistant Kelvin Chan is committed to making sure all our boarders are healthy and "have a blast all day, every day." His responsibilities include feeding, playing with, walking and administering medications for our boarders. Kelvin has a bachelor's degree in animal science and he joined the Animal and Bird Hospital of Del Mar in April 2014.

"It is an awesome pleasure working here," he says. "I love to work with people that share my passion."

Kelvin has a Siberian Husky named Nanuq. In his spare time he enjoys surfing, horseback polo, music and playing with Nanuq.
