Practice Manager

Stevie A.

Del Mar Veterinary Staff

Full-time Practice Manager Stevie A. joined our team in December of 2016. She is responsible for managing daily workflow, ensuring compliance with labor laws, coaching, training, developing employees, communicating with clients and establishing meaningful relationships, as well as reviewing and updating hospital policies. Stevie's favorite part of the job is assisting out on the floor so that she can work side by side with staff, but training and development is a close second.

Stevie is a San Diego native with an HR background working for Legoland, which was her first job after high school, where she worked as a ride operator. Currently, Stevie is pursuing a Human Resource Management degree. She has also been volunteering for dog rescues since December 2016.

"Animal & Bird Hospital is a fast-paced clinic with a high standard of care. No day is the same, and the variety of cases makes it a very stimulating place to work. The staff is very passionate & they impress me every day with how much they are able to handle. I am a truly blessed manager with the best team!"

At home, Stevie has a Border Collie mix named Athena and a Tortoiseshell Shorthair cat named Tesla. Stevie is a mom to a toddler named Ellie, and loves spending time taking her and Athena to the beach. She also enjoys baking, camping, hiking, reading, and she is a huge coffee lover.

Courtney V.

Del Mar Veterinary Staff

Full-time Veterinary Technician/Assistant Lead Courtney V. joined our team in January 2017. She has 9 years of experience working in the veterinary care field. Before coming to work at Animal & Bird Hospital of Del Mar, Courtney worked as a Kennel Attendant for 6 years at a high-volume pet boarding facility. As a RVT, Courtney is responsible for diagnostic procedures, administering treatments, surgical prep, anesthesia, and dental cleanings. Courtney loves performing dental cleanings, and loves knowing that she is making a difference in patient health. Some of the unique qualities that Courtney brings to our office are her positivity and laughter.

"I love working beside four inspirational doctors. This challenges me to expand my knowledge through their variety of methods. I also enjoy the team of dedicated yet fun-loving individuals around me. There's nothing better than accomplishing our tasks together on a Disney music Friday."

Courtney has an Associates of Science in Animal Health Technology and is a Registered Veterinary Technician in California. At home, Courtney has three pets of her own. Jubilee is a 5-year-old mutt from Mexico. Zombie and Buckwheat are both 9-year-old Red Ear Slider Turtles. In her free time, Courntey enjoys horseback riding, traveling, hiking, rock climbing, and playing pickleball. She also loves taking trips with her husband and their dog, Jubilee. Courtney also likes to spend quiet time painting, reading, doing ballet, and having movie nights.

Veterinary Assistants

Brittney G.

Del Mar Veterinary Staff

Brittney G. has 18 years of experience working in the veterinary care field. As a part-time Veterinary Assistant, Brittney is responsible for patient care, emergency and critical care, radiology, staff training, surgery, dental, and works as an aesthetic nurse. She is particularly skilled at managing difficult emergency cases and teaching new students. Brittney specializes in venipuncture and radiography.

Brittney has an AA in Biology, Math, and she is currently enrolled in a pre-nursing program. Before joining our team full-time in June of 2015, Brittney worked at several ER facilities in San Diego, Orange County, Inland Empire, Vet Speciality, and currently works as a Radiology Tech per diem for ECC/ICU emergency critical care.

At home, Brittney has a 13-year-old Yorkshire Terrier named Ralph. In her free time, Brittney enjoys traveling, collecting passport stamps, mixology (covid hobby), doing yoga, she loves trying new foods and considers herself a foodie, and she enjoys surfing (though she's "terrible" at it).

Joshua B.

Del Mar Veterinary Staff

Joshua is a full-time Veterinary Nurse here at Animal & Bird Hospital of Del Mar. He is responsible for ordering supplies for the hospital, as well as helping with our avian friends! Joshua loves seeing the recovery of patients and being able to be part of the healing process. With five years of experience working in the veterinary care field, Joshua is a key part of providing excellent care to all of our patients. Joshua joined our staff in January of 2017. He has an associate degree in Music and a Veterinary Nursing degree from PIMA.

When asked why enjoys working at ABH, Josh says that he loves being able to come together with the group and work together to provide quality veterinary care. He also loves Disney Music Fridays!

Joshua has a 16-year-old domestic shorthair tuxedo cat named Buddy. In his free time, Josh enjoys volunteering at animal shelters, playing instruments, listening to music, cooking, playing basketball, hanging out with family & friends, having good times and making great memories.

Kristina W.

With 14 years of experience, Kristina W. is a longstanding member of our veterinary community! She is responsible for admitting patients, assisting Veterinarians and Veterinary Technicians, cleaning, and sanitizing. Kristina also runs lab work, educates clients, and maintains good customer relations. She has a BS in Biology and extensive experience caring for animals in different capacities. Before joining our team in October 2012, Kristina worked as a Kennel Assistant from 2003-2004, a Veterinary Assistant from 2004-present, and a Pet Sitter from 2003-present. At home, Kristina has two cats named Willy (12) and Tinkerbell (3), both of whom are Ragdoll cats. She enjoys spending her free time hiking, reading, and doing puzzles.

Justin is a full-time Veterinary Technician here at Animal & Bird Hospital of Del Mar. He is responsible for animal care, customer service, and critical care. He loves team building activities and maintaining relations with regular clients. Justin has twelve years of experience working in the veterinary care field and is truly passionate about the technical aspects of veterinary care. Before joining our team, Justin worked at other veterinary care facilities as a Veterinary Technician from 2008-2015 and as a Medical Director from 2016-2018.

At home, Justin has a 10-year-old domestic shorthair feline named Mowgli. In his free time, Justin enjoys body surfing, swimming, resistance training, hiking, shooting, bread/sourdough baking, cooking, coffee, spending time with family and loved ones, composting, and gardening.

Beth M.

Del Mar Veterinary Staff

Beth M. is a full-time Veterinary Assistant here at Animal and Bird Hospital of Del Mar. She is responsible for taking appointments, filing medication, as well as making sure pets are happy and healthy! One of her favorite parts of working here is getting to care for puppies and kittens during their appointments! Beth joined our team in February 2020, and has 3 years of experience caring for animals in other veterinary care roles. She has previously worked as a Wildlife Rehabilitation Coordinator/Animal Care Technician for 1 year, as a Data Analyst with animal radiographs for 9 months. She also has a BS in Zoology from UCSB (Go Gauchos!!).

At home, Beth has two cats of her very own! Bagheera is a 2-year-old black DSH, and Sasha is a 1.5-year-old orange Tabby DSH. Beth has actually trained her cats to stay on command! She enjoys working here at Animal and Bird Hospital of Del Mar because it provides her with a variety of small animal and avian care opportunities. She says that it is wonderful to be working with such committed and passionate people! In her free time, Beth enjoys taking naps with kittens, baking desserts, and catching up on Netflix.

Decker A.

Full-time Veterinary Assistant and Technician Decker A. is responsible for vaccine administration, client communication, and restocking medication. Decker is great at comforting patients and spoiling the hospital cats (especially resident cats Harry and Lloyd).

Decker has a BS in Biology Anthropology and a minor in General Biology. Before joining our team full-time in August of 2020, Decker worked for three years as a dog walker with Wags! He has a 7-year-old Sulcata Tortoise named Hodor. In his free time, Decker enjoys spending time with friends and loved ones, playing video games, hiking, and going to the beach. He also likes playing lacrosse, football, and basketball. He also loves to bring in different types of tea for the staff to try!

Jorge R.

Jorge R. is a part-time Veterinary Assistant and resident Bird Expert here at Animal & Bird Hospital of Del Mar. He is responsible for providing the best care to dogs, cats, and birds here at our office. Jorge has worked at Free Flight, an exotic bird sanctuary, for 4 ½ years and has 6 years of experience working in the veterinary care field. He has also worked as a tour guide at the zoo, as medical staff at the rescue facility, and he is an advocate to end animal extinction. Jorge joined our team in August of 2020; we are so grateful for his extensive experience caring for different types of animals! Jorge is also bilingual, so we are so happy to have him help us communicate with all of our wonderful clients.

In his free time, Jorge likes to go skiing, spend time at the zoo and safari park, and volunteer with Free Flight.

Kayla O.

Del Mar Veterinary Staff

Veterinary Technician & Assistant Kayla is responsible for taking appointments, prepping & assisting with surgeries and procedures. Kayla loves giving treats to our patients and giving the long-term patients extra love during their stay. Before joining our team full-time in November of 2020, Kayla worked as a Veterinary Assistant Intern at the Pet Hospital of Rancho Penasquitos. She also volunteered at the Living Coast Discovery Center. Kayla has an associate degree in Veterinary Technology and has personal experience working with and owning reptiles.

"From day one as an intern, the staff was so welcoming & found any excuse to laugh off stress. Even on overwhelming days, I can walk with my dog to the beach during my lunch break for some fresh air and sunshine."

Kayla has a 5-year-old mutt named Lucy-Chai, two DSH cats named Casper & Phoebe, a white tree frog named Sheila, and a fire-ivory ball python named Madonna. In her spare time, Kayla enjoys hiking, going for road trips with her co-pilot Lucy-Chai, and building bioactive vivariums for her cold-blooded pets. She also likes visiting national & state parks, collecting patches from her adventures, roller skating, doing arts & crafts with her niece and nephew, surfing, doing mixed martial arts, and riding her motorcycle on the streets and in the desert.

Taylor H.

Del Mar Veterinary Staff

Taylor H. joined our team in October 2020 as a full-time Veterinary Assistant. She is responsible for playing with the animals in our care, feeding and walking them, grooming them, and giving them lots of love! Taylor loves expanding her knowledge of dog, cat, and avian care. She has a background in dog training skills, and helping dogs with anxiety. Currently, Taylor is working on a degree in Biology with a focus in Marine Studies. She has five years of experience working as a dog walker and a pet sitter since she was in high school, as well as time as a Shift Lead at a boarding & daycare facility for one year.

"I have loved working at ABH because every day I am honored to work with people whose love and passion for animal care show in everything they do! Everyone at ABH is more than willing to go the extra mile not only in helping myself learn more everyday, but also in making every animal feel cared for and special for their time here."

At home, Taylor is the pet parent to a big longhaired Calico cat named Churro! In her free time, Taylor volunteers at local humane societies, the San Diego Zoo, and she has previously volunteered at the Monterey Bay Aquarium for 4 years. She also likes to surf, ski, snowboard, hike, and read nonfiction books.

Receptionists

Sarah D.

Full-time Reception Lead Sarah D. joined our team in March of 2021. Her main duties include answering phones and schedule appointments. She also makes sure the clients are happy from the moment they walk through the door until the end of the appointment. She is also responsible for client follow up and scheduling prescription refills. Sarah’s favorite part of the job is working with the animals! She also loves interacting with our clients and learning more about them and their animals.

Sarah brings years of experience working in the animal care field, including working at a doggy day care / rescue and working as a veterinary receptionist.

“Everyone here is absolutely wonderful. All staff members and Doctors are so friendly and caring! The clients here are also remarkable. It’s always so wonderful working at a place you love,” says Sarah of her time working at Animal & Bird Hospital of Del Mar.

At home Sarah has three dogs of her own. Dozer is a 9-year-old Lab / Pit mix, Calypso is a 6-year-old Huskey / Shephard mix, and Falkor is a 3-year-old Sussex Spaniel.

Outside of work, Sarah enjoys playing soccer and golf. She is also a foodie and enjoys trying different foods. She also enjoys snorkeling and spending time at the beach.

Julia D.

Del Mar Veterinary Staff

Julia D. is a full-time Kennel Attendant Lead who helps make animals feel comfortable and loved while they stay with us. She is responsible for feeding, playing, cleaning up after the animals, and comforting them. Julia loves meeting new animals, playing and loving on the regular boarding guests, and learning new things from co-workers. Currently, Julia is in school to be a social worker. Before joining our team in August of 2018, Julia gained 3 years of experience as a Doggy Daycare Attendant.

When asked why she loves working at Animal & Bird Hospital of Del Mar, Julia said "I love my coworkers and our clients! The location is so beautiful and being right by the beach is amazing."

At home, Julia has a 3-year-old cattle dog named Harley. She likes to spend her free time snowboarding, camping, playing with Harley, eating, watching hockey, and cooking.

Luis is a full-time Kennel Technician and Groomer with 7 years of experience working in the veterinary care field. He is responsible for keeping all kennel areas clean, walking, feeding dogs, grooming, and fixing things around the hospital. Luis also loves introducing new puppies to the play group! He currently serves as the President of the Fence Jumping Pitbull Club alongside his 5-year-old pit bull, Lola. He also has a 6-year-old terrier mix named Princess. Luis is currently pursuing his Associates degree. Before joining our team in August of 2017, Luis worked at the Muddy Paws Country Spa Valley Center for three years. In his free time, Luis likes riding his motorcycle, fishing, playing soccer, fixing cars and his motorcycle, hiking, and working out.

Michelle W.

Del Mar Veterinary Staff

Kennel Technician Michelle joined our team part-time in September of 2020. She helps to take excellent care of our boarders and daycare guests. Her responsibilities include feeding, medicating, walking, bathing, overall care, and she helps the vet techs with restraining during appointments. Previously, Michelle worked at the San Diego Humane Society for four years, at Lions Tigers and Bears for two years, and the Eastlake Village Veterinary Clinic for 3 months in 2019. She is currently enrolled at San Diego State University in her 4th year of undergrad. Her previous experience working in a shelter has helped her understand how to read the body language of dogs and cats, which allows her to help pets adjust to their new surroundings. Michelle is also the President of the SDSU Pre-Vet club.

"I enjoy working here because of the nice staff and coworkers. I also appreciate seeing all the different breeds that come in for care. It's also cool to learn more about avian care, which is something I was previously not too familiar with."

Michelle has several pets of her very own. Alli (7-year-old Airedale Terrier mix), Cieran (5-year-old black cat), Comet (5-year-old white & grey cat), and her three hamsters, Share, Queenie, and Runt (all 1-year-old). In her free time, Michelle enjoys reading books, writing stories, and drawing. She also likes to play her violin and play soccer with her dog, Alli. Michelle also loves to cuddle up with Alli and watch movies or anime.
